Spirituality's Role in Psychology and Recovery of Addicts - Focusing on Breathing and Self-love
Park Sang-Gyu

Abstract
This study aimed to explore the role of spirituality centered on breathing and self-love on the recovery of addicts. Negative emotions such as anxiety and fear are closely related to addiction and can result from experiences that were not loved by parents or other important people in childhood. Addicts try to avoid the negative emotions by using defense mechanisms such as denial, projection, and rationalization and being immersed in the subjects of addiction. The negative emotions experienced by addicts lead to uncomfortable breathing. On the contrary, if addicts regain comfortable breathing while paying attention to their breathing, negative emotions can be relaxed and recovery can be well maintained. The study suggests that breathing and self-love can be effective spiritual intervention.
